"Sliding Doors" (1998) PG-13

Two universes unfold in writer-director Peter Howitt's romantic fantasy about alternate realities, fate and train timetables. In the first scenario, Londoner Helen Quilley (Gwyneth Paltrow) squeezes through the subway train's doors just in time, making it home to find her boyfriend (John Lynch) fooling around with another woman. In the second, she misses the train and returns to her flat none the wiser. Which is better?

This movie was a bit unusual from the norm. It portrays two scenarios of what might happen to this gal...if she missed her train or didn't miss her train. How would her romance turn out? I quite enjoyed this movie.

"The Proposal" (2009) PG-13

When high-powered book editor Margaret (Sandra Bullock) faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she's actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), who she's tormented for years. He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family (Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, Betty White) and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another. With an impromptu wedding in the works and an immigration official on their tails, Margaret and Andrew reluctantly vow to stick to the plan despite the precarious consequences.

This hilarious movie just came out in theaters last week. It is a very funny, romantic comedy....loved it! I give it 10 stars !!!!

"Multiplicity" (1996) PG-13

Convinced that there isn't enough of him to go around, overworked contractor Doug Kinney (Michael Keaton) has himself secretly cloned so he can spend more time with his wife (Andie MacDowell) and children. But the clones slowly develop ideas of their own -- and managing them turns out to be the toughest job Doug's ever had. Harold Ramis directs this screwball comedy of errors, co-starring Eugene Levy and Brian Doyle-Murray.

I found this movie to be very hilarious and I laughed till my sides hurt. Michael Keaton outdoes himself playing all the different personalities of the clones.

"Wuthering Heights" (1992) PG

A sweeping, epic production of Emily Brönte's classic tale of star-crossed lovers Cathy (Juliette Binoche) and Heathcliff (Ralph Fiennes), whose passionate love and tragic separation plays out against the lovely, brooding Yorkshire moors. This version presents the complete novel and continues the fateful consequences of the doomed love affair as it resonates down through two generations of two families. Jeremy Northam and Janet McTeer co-star.

This is a timeless classic....what more can I say! Never tire of it.

"The Painted Veil" (2006) PG-13

Shunned by a husband (Edward Norton) who's more interested in his research, the simpleminded Kitty Fane (Naomi Watts) embarks on a quest for life fulfillment. Along the way, she ignites a passionate affair with a dashing womanizer (Liev Schreiber) and travels with her husband to the Far East, where she turns her attention to fighting the cholera epidemic. Diana Rigg co-stars in this period drama based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham.

Interesting movie about the trials and struggles of fighting poverty and disease in other countries.

"Anne Frank: The Whole Story" (2001) TV-14

Anne Frank's acclaimed diary, kept while in hiding in Amsterdam during World War II, enjoys the highest readership of any book ever printed (except the Bible). This filmed version fills in gaps omitted when her father (the only family member to survive the Nazi holocaust) submitted the work for publication. The story follows Anne to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where she died just days before liberation.

I am very much drawn to articles, books, and movies depicting the truths and events of the Holocaust period. This movie gives broader and additional insights into the Frank family ordeal. This movie in NOT a documentary. This is a good companion movie to the one called "The Diary of Anne Frank" (also not a documentary). My heart deeply goes out to all those who suffered in the Holocaust.

"Blonde" (2001) NR

Poppy Montgomery plays the leading role as history's most iconic blonde -- Marilyn Monroe -- in this made-for-television miniseries that also stars Patricia Richardson as Marilyn's ill-fated mother, Griffin Dunne in a thinly veiled portrait of husband and playwright Arthur Miller and Sky McCole Bartusiak as the young Norma Jean. Rounding out the impressive ensemble cast are Wallace Shawn, Patrick Dempsey, Kirstie Alley and Ann-Margret.

I really got a good insight into Marilyn Monroe by watching this 2-disc movie. It was very interesting to see how Hollywood treats their stars. Sometimes it is not very nice.

"Songcatcher" (1999) PG-13

During a visit to her sister in Appalachia, gifted musicologist Dr. Lily Penleric (Janet McTeer) stumbles upon a musical treasure trove -- dozens of Scots-Irish ballads that have been preserved for generations by the local populace and are unknown to the outside world. Intent on collecting the beautiful songs, Dr. Penleric comes to admire the locals, who live a tough, hardscrabble existence without complaint.

A very enjoyable movie as I learned about the music of these people who live in the mountains. The music is catchy with wonderful words of life and wisdom. Aidan Quinn also starts in this movie. He is wonderful. Everyone is wonderful in this movie...a very interesting story.
